History fascinates me. The events of the past are not just fodder for boring textbooks. Nope. They represent life, death, struggle, and the footsteps of a fallen people across the sands of time. When I read history I try to put flesh on the names. I visualize the events taking place as they actually unfolded. With that in mind I decided to read through a set called "The Story of Civilization" by Durant. The set consists of eleven volumes, each containing around 1,000 pages. (If it impresses you that I am reading the set please know that I have been at it for over six months and I'm still in the first volume!) An old-time preacher once told me that history was "His-Story." I find that to be a little on the corney side. But it really is true. As I read history I clearly see the unfolding of God's story. His hand is all over the place. It reminds me that current events are in His hands. It thrills me to think that I can join His-Story. In fact, He invites me to be part of His-Story. What a thought! God invites you to be part of history. What, I wonder, will the pages of history say about the life you have lived?

The Wild Goose Chase

wild goose chase

Wild Goose Chase by Mark Batterson easily cracks my top ten best books of the last decade list!  Some of you may remember I had mention in a sermon that the early Celts referred to the Holy Spirit as "the Wild Goose."  Only later did I discover this book by the same title.

Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage

The story of Ernest Shackleton and the voyage of the Endurance might just be one of the greatest adventure stories of all time. It is an incredible true story of survival and adventure at the South Pole. Whenever anyone asks me to name some of the best books I have ever read this book is always one of the first ones I mention. I could tell you the whole story, but who am I to ruin it for you?

Making Disciples: One Conversation at a Time

Last fall I picked up "Making Disciples One Conversation at a Time" by D.
